Session Description: 27. MAKING SYSTEMS LEVEL: CHANGE IN POST-ACUTE CARE USING SESSIONS LEARNED FROM THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC | Keith Chartier

The COVID-19 pandemic was the ultimate stress test on the nation’s healthcare system, especially within skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. Strong infection control programs and processes were essential in mitigating the initial spread of the novel coronavirus. Strategies included overall program assessment, staff education, data reporting, hand hygiene;  and PPE auditing, screening, and environmental cLeaning. The pandemic also showed the need for strong communication skills and a focus on staff and resident well-being. This presentation will highlight the lessons learned from the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic and how they can be permanently implemented into post-acute care infection control and quality improvement programs.
